Appalachian Solar Co. closes $15M to deploy residential solar across rural Alabama and Tennessee.
# GADSDEN, Ala. — Appalachian Solar Co., a residential solar energy provider serving rural communities across the Southeast, today announced it has closed a $15 million funding round to accelerate deployment of rooftop solar systems throughout Alabama and Tennessee.
The capital infusion will enable Appalachian Solar Co. to expand its installation capacity by 40 percent over the next 18 months, bringing clean energy solutions to underserved rural households that have historically lacked access to solar technology. The company plans to hire 75 additional installation technicians and launch operations in seven new counties across the two-state region.
"This funding validates our mission to democratize solar energy in rural America," said James Mitchell, founder and CEO of Appalachian Solar Co. "Rural communities deserve the same clean energy benefits and cost savings that solar provides. With this capital, we're removing barriers to adoption and creating quality jobs in the communities we serve."
Appalachian Solar Co. has completed more than 2,100 residential installations since its 2019 founding, generating an estimated $8.2 million in annual savings for homeowners through reduced electricity costs. The company's average customer saves approximately $12,000 over the system's 25-year lifespan.
The funding round was led by prominent sustainable infrastructure investors focused on rural economic development and decarbonization across the Southeast.
