AUBURN, Ala. — Plains Ag Tech today announced the launch of CropSense, a comprehensive Internet of Things soil monitoring platform engineered specifically for Alabama row crop producers. The platform delivers real-time nutrient and moisture analytics designed to optimize yield potential and reduce input costs across cotton, peanut and soybean operations.
CropSense integrates wireless soil sensors deployed across individual fields with cloud-based analytics software, enabling farmers to monitor critical soil parameters including nitrogen levels, phosphorus availability, potassium content and volumetric water content. The system provides actionable insights through an intuitive mobile application, allowing producers to make data-driven decisions regarding irrigation scheduling, fertilizer application timing and nutrient management strategies.
"Alabama farmers have long needed precision agriculture tools specifically calibrated to our regional soil types and growing conditions," said James Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer of Plains Ag Tech. "CropSense eliminates the guesswork from soil management, helping our agricultural community maximize profitability while promoting sustainable farming practices."
The platform launches with initial deployment across 50 pilot farms throughout central and south Alabama. Early adopters will receive complimentary sensor installation and six months of software access. CropSense is priced at $4,500 annually per 500-acre operation, with tiered pricing available for larger operations.
Plains Ag Tech will showcase CropSense at the Alabama Farmers Federation Convention in February 2024.
